The Team

Julian Awad, CEO. Prior to graduating high school in Colorado, Julian had attended two international schools, one oil school, two private schools and four public schools in five countries and had visited over twenty. From teaching English on television, working in youth counseling, to relief trips to refugees in Sumatra, Julian has always had a passion for helping people. His entrepreneurial activities began in elementary school importing candy from Singapore to Malaysia and Indonesia. By the time he was Nineteen he had started a real estate company while studying International Relations and Mathematics. A series of projects and entrepreneurial adventures followed for the next four years when he began formal Project Manager and technology training at Xerox. Five years and two dot-coms later, Julian was hired by CIGNA and admitted in to their Early Leadership Development Program and simultaneously enrolling full-time at the Wharton School of Business earning a double major BBA in Management and Marketing. He was a Dean's list member and awarded academic scholarships nine times, graduating Magna Cum Laude. With over 8 years of experience in strategic planning, project management, insurance, information technology, and managing multi-million dollar budgets, Julian now has focused his goals on the success of HIVmirror™: to create value for our customers and greater community and a healthy and sustainable organization.

Richard Watson, Chief Technical Officer. Born in Saint Catharine, Jamaica, Richard moved to the United States in 1986 and landed in Philadelphia. Attending the highly regarded Masterman magnet school in Philadelphia, Richard developed a penchant for science. He continued his studies at Temple University completing his BS in Molecular biology. Currently he is a research specialist in molecular virology at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine.

Richard is an American Chemical Society Scholar and a published author.

Dr. David A. Targan, Advisor - M.D. Internal Medicine, Dr. Targan is an Internal Medicine Physician , board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and member of the American College of Physicians and the Pennsylvania and Montgomery County Medical Societies. He is on the medical staff of Lankenau and Bryn Mawr Hospitals, part of the Main Line HealthCare System. Dr. Targan specializes in patient education, adolescent health, and personalized and genomic medicine. He is also CEO of Cellular GenetiX, a company focused on pharmacogenomic testing and therapeutic genomics.

Christopher L Coleman, Advisor - PhD, MPH, APRN-BC, ACRN, teaches clinical modalities in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. This course introduces graduate level students to the theoretical underpinnings and practice of individual, family and group therapy.

Dr. Coleman was awarded a K01 R08095-01 (2001-2004) from the National Institutes of Health to study HIV related risk behaviors in African American men middle-aged and older. The study was recently completed and the findings are currently being analyzed. Additionally, Dr. Coleman is a Principal Investigator with a national/international multi-site study which focuses on investigating strategies for symptom management among HIV infected individuals out of the University of California School of Nursing's International HIV/AIDS Nursing Research Network. Dr. Coleman also completed a funded study (2003-2004) of the relationship of neuroendocrine mediators, to depressive symptoms and quality of life in persons with HIV/AIDS.

In addition to his clinical expertise in psychiatric nursing, Dr. Coleman recently earned a Masters in Public Health, from Johns Hopkins University where he concentrated his studies in the areas of epidemiology and population based research. Dr. Coleman maintains his clinical expertise through his memberships in the following associations: American Psychiatric Nurses Association, International Society of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses, Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and the American Public Health Association.

Dr. Coleman received his BS from Walla Walla College, his MS from the Oregon Health Sciences University, and his PhD from the University of California, San Francisco. He also received special training in neuropsychiatry and neurobiology from the University of California Los Angeles's Neuropsychiatry Summer Institute and has developed and taught an on-line advanced psychopathology course.

William Brawner, Advisor, is a Youth Project Coordinator at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. He oversees the Youth and Young Adult Roundtable and the Youth Positive Committee. William has devoted over half of his life to HIV/AIDS education and prevention, starting as a Peer Educator at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia at the age of 14.

While attending college at Howard University in Washington, DC William worked as an Outreach Coordinator for Metro Teen AIDS, and Sasha Bruce, both in Washington, DC. Upon his return to Philadelphia, he worked at Spectrum Health Services where he conducted AIDS testing and counseling. During the summer he volunteers as a camp counselor at Camp Dream Catcher, a summer camp for HIV/AIDS infected and affected children.

He has facilitated trainings, support groups for HIV positive young adults, and volunteered for the United States Conference on AIDS host committee. William holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Social Justice at Marygrove College in Detroit, MI.

Aubrey Tatarowicz, Intern, has finished her first year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She plans to study Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Growing up in her hometown of Hilltown, Pennsylvania, Aubrey has always been interested in helping people. She ran a special needs program for children, helping them to play softball and baseball.
